Janet Kay (Mooney) Miller passed away on We d n e s d a y, April 10, 2024, at the age of 73 years, seven months, and 28 days. She was born in Eminence, Missouri on August 13, 1950 to William “Bill” and Goldie Mooney. Kay would often share stories of her siblings. She was the second to youngest of six children, two from Bill’s first marriage. Kay was an exemplary trumpet player during high school and loved to play competitive volleyball for the Eminence Redwings. Kay graduated from Eminence High School in 1968.

Kay resided in several places after high school. She first moved to Kansas City after graduation. She then moved to Gulfport, Mississippi and later to Colby, Kansas. She returned to Eminence in her early twenties to be near her family. She worked for Angelica Uniform Factory in Eminence until it closed and then pursued studies at Missouri State University in West Plains. She transitioned to Springfield to complete her studies, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Accounting .

While in Springfield, Kay met the love of her life, Ronald Eugene Miller. She and Ron moved to Indianapolis, Indiana to care for Ron’s father. Ron and Kay were united in marriage on September 4, 1992. Kay continued to work as an accountant in Indianapolis until she was permanently disabled after suffering from a serious stroke. Kay remained in Indianapolis until her husband’s death in November 2017. Shortly after Ron’s passing, symptoms of dementia and Parkinson’s disease became apparent. Kay then moved to Lafayette, Indiana and resided at St. Anthony’s Rehabilitation and Nursing facility.

Kay loved to embroidery. An art taken after by her mother. She made numerous quilts and crafts and loved to make clothes, especially for her grandkids. She enjoyed gardening, canning and feeding the birds. Her true love was for her dogs. You rarely saw her travel anywhere without them. Her infectious smile and love of her neighbors made her home a meeting place for all holidays and dinners. Her love for cooking and baking brought many people to the dinner table. She loved making bread and rolls with her grandkids help. Leaving the excess flour for Ethan to drive his Hotwheels in. Kay also had a love for taking her grandkids on adventures to the zoo, children’s museum or just out shopping. She enjoyed cheering on the Indianapolis Colts football and the Indiana Pacers basketball. But she remained a loyal St. Louis Cardinals fan.

Kay is survived by her six children (step-children), Brian Humphrey of Lafayette,Indiana, and Lori (James) Smith of Holts Summit, Missouri; Sandy Cavaughn of Zimbabwe Africa; Ronnie Miller of Nashville, Tennessee; Danny Miller of Lexington, Kentucky; and Shana (Greg) Chapman of Great Falls, Montana. She is also survived by eight grandchildren, Samantha, Nicole, Patrick, Marissa, Andrew, Kirsten, Ethan, and Lovanna; and seven great-grandchildren, Tyson, Victoria, Addilyn , Kinsleigh, Sage, Denerious and Alyvia. She is also survived by two brothers, Fred (Judy) Mooney and Val Dane (Linda) Mooney and a host of friends and extended family. Kay is preceded in death by her parents, William“Bill” W. Mooney and Goldie L. Mooney; her husband, Ronald Eugene Miller;one sister, Vaheida (Mooney) Blunkall Killingsworth and two brothers, William D. Mooney and Franklin Leroy Mooney; and one daughter-in-law, Sandy Humphrey.

Interment will be held, Thursday, April 18, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Marion National Cemetary, Marion, Indiana.
