Judy (Mizer) Barnes
Judy Ann (Mizer) Barnes was born January 10, 1948, to Loren and Frances (Bonebrake) Mizer, in Madison, Wisconsin. She departed this life on July 31, 2024, in St. Louis, Missouri.
Judy was married to Jack Barnes on February 6, 1965, in Birch Tree, Missouri. Together they had five children Billie (Sue) Barnes, Betty (Cecil) Womack, Bev (Donnie) Ledgerwood all of Birch Tree, Bobbie (Stacey) Barnes, and Becky Barnes (Scott) both of Mountain View, MO.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Loren and Frances Mizer; her sister, Sharon Nicholson; and a very special nephew, Pete Nicholson.
Mourning her loss are her husband, Jack of the home; her 5 children and their spouses; 13 grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren with another on the way; brother, Chet Mizer; sister, Tamie Coontz; and her big dog, Bozo.
Judy was a great mom to her own kids, the neighborhood kids, and she was Grandma Judy to her grands and their friends, as well as, numerous nieces, nephews, and the boys’ basketball team at Liberty High School. When she started working outside the home, she worked at Tobin Hamilton Shoe Factory, Conaway Winter, and was a jack of all trades at the Hickory House. She was extremely proud of her boys’ work ethic and their ironic sense of humor that they inherited from her. She was known for her baking, especially blackberry cobbler and cream pies, with her cobblers selling for $500 or more at all of the local benefits. She enjoyed making jellies and pickled beets with her girls and always had meat and potatoes on the table for Jack and something sweet baked to go with his nightly ice cream.
She had many special friends, including the Golden Girls whom she loved to meet for lunch downtown. She also served several years on the Board of Directors of the Sheltered Workshop in Birch Tree . Judy was also an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary where she was proud to serve her community. She was a social butterfly and lit the room wherever she went. She was sassy till the end and I have no doubt that Jesus said "Good Job Judy" when he met her at the gate.
