Dennis Newby

Dennis Gene Newby was born February 19, 1953, in Prineville, Oregon to Laurel Lee & Helen Berniece (Lewis) Newby. He passed away on October 12, 2024, in West Plains Missouri, at the age of 71.
Dennis was united in marriage to Cathy Charlane Cook on September 2, 1972, at Valley Center Baptist Church in Hartshorn, Missouri. Cathy preceded him in death on May 4, 1996, making their union together 24 years.
Dennis graduated from Summersville High School in 1971 and graduated from Reisch Auction School, Mason City, Iowa later that year. He and his wife Cathy owned and operated Newby’s Auction Service and is responsible for introducing the bidder number system into this area. Cathy spontaneously signed him up for an auctioneer contest at the Missouri State Fair one year where he won fourth place in his Ely shirt, Levis and straw hat while standing shoulder to shoulder with the other sharp dressed contestants. He sold the Alton pig sale and many other local sales including: Wright County Livestock Auction, Salem Livestock Auction, Ozarks Regional Stockyards, Interstate Regional Stockyards, Sedgwickville Sale Barn, Callaway Livestock Center, Caledonia Livestock Auction, Farmington Livestock Auction, Fredericktown Livestock Auction, Licking Livestock Auction and Mountain View SaleBarn. He also owned and operated Summersville Livestock Auction. After retiring, he started his local slab-hauling business.
He is preceded by his parents, Laurel & Berniece Newby; his wife, Cathy Newby; his mother and father in-law, Clyde & Billy Cook; his brother, Leonard Newby; brother-in-law Randy Kirkman; his "baby girl" granddaughter, Caylyn Renae Newby; one great-grandchild; and a niece, Janie Newby.
He is survived by his daughter Heather Hill & husband Matt of Fayetteville, TN; son Heath Newby & wife Amanda Jo of Summersville, MO; grandsons Wyatt Woolsey (Kelsey); Waylon Woolsey (Haylee) and Cole Newby (MaKysha); Justin Hill (Allison); granddaughter, Anna Hill; great granddaughters, Maggie Woolsey, Kyntleigh and Kaisley Karr, a great grandson coming in January, Duncan Woolsey; his friend, Carletta Abbey; his sisters-in law, Brenda Newby, Linda Kirkman, & Judy Barton ( Wilbert); his brother-in-law Keith Cook (Carolyn); his nephews, Linny Newby (Chandra), Jon Kirkman (Rebecca), Scott Kirkman (Randie Kay), Matthew Cook & Jared Cook (Katie); nieces Holly Abbey and Nicole Brawley (Nathan); greatnieces Taylor York (Jacob), Alexa Crane (Nathan), Zoe Abbey, Sarah Iott (Tristian) , Katie Newby, Karen Kirkman & Kassi Kirkman; greatnephews, Preston lott, Jace, Kaden &West Kirkman,Eli & Maverick Brawley; great-great nieces Nora Cook, Raylee & Nora Crane, Hadleigh York and Lily Iott; uncles, Howard Smith and Fred Rubert; aunts, Evelyn Tyler and Linda Lewis as well as a host of cousins, other family and many friends.
Dennis accepted the Lord as his Savior at eight years old, during a Sunday night church service. He believed that to be absent here is to be present with the Lord, so we take comfort today knowing he is rejoicing with his family and friends who have gone on before.
Funeral services were held at 10:30AM, Friday, October 18, 2024 at the Big Creek Church with Pastors Charles Felker and David Jett officiating. Interment was in the Valley Center Cemetery at Hartshorn. Services were under the care of Bradford Funeral Home and online condolences may be left at www.bradfordfuneralhome.net
